Keith Franke [1954 - 1988]
"Adorable" Adrian Adonis
Known to the professional wrestling world as "Adorable" Adrian Adonis, this flamboyant wrestler made a name for himself as a leather jacket-clad biker in the Minnesota-based American Wrestling Association and soon formed a highly successful tag team with Jesse Ventura known as the East-West Connection. In 1980, the duo captured the AWA World Tag Team Championship. Adonis later formed a tag team with "Dirty" Dick Murdoch known as the North-South Connection, which went on to win the WWF World Tag Team Championship in 1984. By 1986, Adonis had ditched his leather jacket, bleached his hair blond and adopted his "Adorable" Adrian Adonis persona. Tragically, Adonis was killed in a bizarre accident after his rental minivan hit a moose while on a pro wrestling tour in Newfoundland on July 4th, 1988.
tough guy! Enjoyed watching him fight.
I see olot of comments about the accident that took the life of one hell of a performer but the truth lies that adonis can wrestle call him overweight and he was but the guy can wrestle with the best of em, I watched him wrestle the dynamite kid and believe it or not he went toe to toe with him but fat or not he was in shape for his size and the bumps this guy took in the ring man you dont see that in wwe anymore not only can adonis wrestle but he can also talk the walk listen to his interviews he was amazing I loved watching adrian he was a great one indeed he should be in the hall of fame so should the dynamite kid hopefully this will happen god bless to you Adrian rest in peace my brother..
You can't predict the behavior of wild animals. My mom's best freiend almost hit a moose running across the highway in summer 1979 in New Brunswick. By the way, my uncle Maurice Martin (Rick Martel"s brother) died in a ring accident from a broken neck in 1982.
I'm a police officer in Newfoundland and I deal with moose/vehicle accidents on a nightly basis at certain times of the year, sometimes several in one night. I remember this incident clearly from when I was a kid, and huge wrestling fan. It was terrible. My heart goes out to their families.
Never, ever have I seen what looked like a huge fat guy move so fast. Even though it was later in his career when he was "adorable", and he had gained significant weight, Adonis seemed to defy the laws of physics by how quick he was. RIP.
a true legend,il never forget his feud with roddy piper
I remember that accident, I am from Ottawa Canada and it is common to see moose or deers on the highway or cities at that, Adrian Adonis probably did not have experiences in driving in those situation, I almost hit a dear, but I saw him from a distance and slowed down. I see them all the time!
I was in a hotel bar in Deer Lake Newfoundland on that night. The other wrestlers on tour came in the bar after the accident. They were all pretty shaken up. From their conversations, it seemed the driver of the van didn't see the moose in time to even apply the brakes.
I remember that day very clearly and yes it is common to see a moose on the highway(I think, I have yet to see one. But that's just me) but it is not all that common to hit a moose causing 3 people to lose their lives. So yes as far as I am concerned it was a bizzare accident and one that this province will never forget.
funny, because by the broken english spoken I would venture to guess the writer is French: N'est pas? How many languages do you speak Anonymous? At least before you call other people 'idiot'.
You are an idiot. Learn to speak English before you criticize someone's article.
I dont know why you think that accident was bizzare in your article, because its not a rare thing here in Canada to have an accident by hitting a moose or a deer. Especialy in NewFoudland and were i live in the province of Quebec. They hit a moose and the minivan crashed and from what i know, Adonis, Pat Kelly and Wildman Dave Mckigney were ejected from the vehicule witch i think is because they havent fastened their seat belts. I just hope that it will light things up for you about this accident that Killed Adonis.
