Don Jardine [1940 - 2006]
Born in New Brunswick, Canada, masked wrestler Don Jardine was best known as "The Spoiler," although he also wrestled as "Super Destroyer," "The Butcher" and "Sonny Cooper." A master of the Iron Claw, The Spoiler stood 6'4", weighed 270 pounds and walked the top rope just like The Undertaker would later do. ("I walk the top rope, as he did. Don Jardine is the man, old-school all the way," The Undertaker once remarked.) In the early 1980s, The Spoiler, along with King Kong Bundy, Jake "The Snake" Roberts and several other wrestlers, joined with the Road Warriors to form the original "Legion of Doom." After retiring from professional wrestling, Jardine moved back to Canada and managed a car wash. He died in 2006 due to complications from leukemia.
The Spoiler was probably the most talented "Bad Guy" to ever live. His matches in the old Tri-State wrestling promotions are all time classics.I will always remember his famous claw hold and his ring savey. Don Jardin,RIP. You left your mark on the wrestling world. You took Andre the Giant and Cowboy Bill Watts to their limits.
Jardine was the beginning of WWE censorship in the summer of '72 - one week he was wrestling jobber Tomas Marin and put the claw on him. A few seconds later there appeared a large white 'X' across the screen to block viewers from seeing the blood gushing from Marin's forehead. After that, every time he used the claw the 'X' would appear whether there was any blood or not, and it would disappear when he released the claw. Very memorable because they never censored blood before that, and they did something similar with Freddie Blassie a few months later (a large, obtrusive "CENSORED" graphic every time Freddie would bite his opponents' foreheads).
