"Dr. D" David Schultz will always be remembered as the professional wrestler who bitch slapped 20/20 reporter John Stossel during an interview purporting to reveal professional wrestling "secrets" in 1984. The incident occurred backstage at Madison Square Garden. While interviewing Schultz, Stossel remarked about professional wrestling, "I think it's fake." Schultz knocked him to the floor. Stossel stood up and was beat down once more before he scurried off with his camera crew in tow (see video above). Schultz would later say that World Wrestling Federation officials had told him to hit Stossel, who filed a lawsuit against the WWF and received an out-of-court settlement of $425,000.

Man! What is it about wrestling (and the internet) that brings out people who insult other people and talk dirty? That seems to be the number one complaint from former pro wrestlers who have their own websites and constantly have to deal with no-life morons who think it's great fun to go on a wrestler's message board and verbally abuse him. (If these same "tough guys" had the chance to do it in person they'd all turn tail and run, peeing their pants all the way.)
Bear in mind, I wasn't condoning what Schultz did to Stossel; not by a long shot. It was a very stupid thing to do and contributed to Schultz being fired from WWF shortly afterward. I was merely remarking that former wrestlers have a real problem dealing with nuisance messages posted on their website message boards due to the Jerry Springer/Maury Povich atmosphere that permeates a lot of areas of the world wide web. Among others, people like Damien Demento (Phil Theis) and Tracy Smothers have been very tempted to close their websites down due to the high volume of people on their message boards and challenging them to fights, as well as an overall confrontational tone and demeanor. Smothers is still an active wrestler, but Demento has been out of wrestling for a number of years and his website is merely to promote his artwork (he's a sculptor).
That had to be the most expensive slaps in the world. I bet that dumb redneck David Schultz had to sell his trailer in order to pay the settlement with John Stossel.

Dave was just showing Mr. Stossel the finer points of the business. Stossel is and always has been, a good for nothing blowhard. Mr. Schultz was just attempting to explain to said blowhard, the fact that he sacrifices a lot to feed his family. How about instead of, "I think it's fake.." We enter into conversation thusly, "Mr. Schultz, I beg that you allow me the opportunity to ask you about the legitimacy of the finishes employed in professional wrestling, and how they correspond to human psychology...please elaborate." This may have been a way of approaching the subject, that could have saved Mr. Stossel's hearing... instead he chose to come with disrespect at a legitimately tough individual. RESPECT is a foundation the professional wrestling business is based on. A business where someone can get hurt at any time...REQUIRES respect amongst the "combatants" This is a PROFOUNDLY LOST concept to the people of Stossel's ilk. This concept of RESPECT is lost to the "news" man...and others like him. Actually being a journalist, and asking tough but polite questions, would involve him being more than an incredible retard... anyone who would be so bold with Mr. Schultz must be mentally handicapped. So, Dave... I applaud thee... and his zeal to protect the business, which cost him dearly... but that folks is a SORELY missing quality...a little thing called HONOR. He was told when being trained, to protect the business at all costs. He LIVED UP TO HIS WORD. Shocking, I know... because these days, everyone just says what the other wants to hear so they PERSONALLY can get ahead. Honor is something SEVERLY lacking in today's society. The responses on this page alone show me that NONE of you know what the DEFINITION of HONOR is. Fucking morons. After all these years people still don't know that wrestlers have roles to play and the reporters are in on it, that's how the drama comes to life.

Grown men who pretend to wrestle in tights have respect and honor? That's about the funniest thing I've ever heard! I once heard each of these wrestlers had to engage in homosexual acts on video tape before they were allowed to join the WWF. The idea was they would be threatened with the release of the video if they ever publicly admitted how it was all a scam. Davey was scared shitless Stossel was going to get his homo-video released. What a waste of a life these losers are.

If you guys did your research yyou would see that he is one of the top bounty hunters around. He has worked with the FBI and other government agencies. David Shultz is a class act and just because you might think he picks on little people shows you know nothing. He gets blackballed and finds a new career and you guys just think he sold the trailer or has gay films out there. Grow a set before you start to talk like you already have a set.

After all don't talk about someone until you walk a mile in their shoes. About Dressed he was fired from 20/20 he is now on fox news. So he seems to hear ok.
